Lois A. Monka, age 86, of Plymouth, passed into eternal rest on Friday, July 25, 2025, at Allied Meade Street Skilled Nursing Center, Wilkes Barre.
Born July 28, 1938 in Plymouth, she was the daughter of the late Michael Buckovich and Anna Hillard Buckovich. Lois was a graduate of Plymouth High School and a member of The Episcopal Church of St. Clement and St. Peter, Wilkes Barre.
Prior to her retirement, she had been employed by the American Tobacco Company for many years.
Lois had a deep love for animals, especially dogs and cats-whether they were her own or belonged to friends. She was a familiar and friendly presence in the neighborhood, often seen on her daily walks, enjoying conversations with those she met along the way. In her free time, she found great joy in quilting, a beloved hobby she cherished for many years.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband, Joseph Monka, who passed away on January 27, 2005, and her two sisters, Sylvia Hobbs and Kay Piatt.
Surviving are her niece, Patricia Swan and her husband, Scott, of Wolcott, CT; nephew, Walter Hobbs and his wife, Tobi, of Little Falls, New York; great niece, Cassandra Swan, of Plymouth; great nephew, Kyle Swan (April), of West Virginia; great-great nephew and niece, Brayden Swan and Bethany Swan; and her beloved neighbors. Lois also leaves behind her beloved pet cat, Daisy.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the S. J. Grontkowski Funeral Home,
530 West Main Street, Plymouth, with Father Charles Warwick officiating. Private Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Mausoleum, Hanover Twp.
Family and friends may call on Thursday from 6 p.m. to service time at the S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, Plymouth.
In lieu of flowers, contributions, if desired, may be made in Lois’ memory to the Luzerne County SPCA.
