James N. Gill, age 82, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at the Mountain City Nursing Home, Hazle Township.

Born October 10, 1942 in Wilkes Barre, he was the son of the late Nelson Gill and Elizabeth McLaughlin Gill. James was a graduate of Hanover Area School System and King’s College where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. James lived throughout New Jersey and would occasionally return to Pennsylvania before eventually settling back in the state

He was an English High School teacher at the Tom’s River and Perth Amboy school districts for many years and had coached several sports teams. James had been a drug and alcohol counselor at the Monmouth Chemical Dependency Treatment Center and also worked for Toms River School System and Perth Amboy. He worked for several summers bartending and managing bars on the Seaside boardwalk before retiring. He taught high school for many years and coached several sports teams

James was an avid sports fan who loved to watch the New York Giants, the New York Yankees and the Boston Celtics. His favorite player was Mickey Mantle. He enjoyed playing video games. James loved to drive especially to Harvey’s Lake. Over the years, he spent much time with his beloved pet dogs, Pete and Kyle.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a brother Peter Gill and a grandson Andrew Gill.

Surviving are sons, Samuel Gill and his wife Jessica, Galloway, N.J., Mark Gill, Florida, and James Gill, New Jersey, grandchildren, Charlotte Gill, Chris Gill, Olivia Gill and Lela Gill, a sister, Bonita A. Mattick and his ex-wives Mary Frances Ford Gill and Mary Maguire.
