Jewel Johnstone, age 84, of Hanover Twp., passed into the Hands of the Lord on January 22, 2026 at Allied Meade Street Hospice, Wilkes Barre.

Born July 26, 1941 in Plymouth, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Niznik and Jule Olenik. Jewel was a graduate of Plymouth High School and was a member of S. S. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Plymouth. She had been employed by Bell Telephone/ Verizon for many years as a telephone operator.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Gerald Niznik who passed away in 2002.

Surviving are nieces and nephews, Jeannette Rossi and her husband Lindo, of Hanover Twp., Georgette Nealon, of Wilkes Barre, Joe Niznik and his wife Kathleen, of Muhlenburg and Jerry Niznik, of Hanover Twp. and great nieces and nephews. Jewel is also survived by her sister in law Shirley Niznik, of Breslau Section of Hanover Twp.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Divine Liturgy Thursday at 11 a.m. in S.S. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Plymouth. Interment will be in the Parish Cemetery, Plymouth Twp.
