Thomas Sawka, 98, of Wilkes-Barre passed away February 17, 2026 Allied Services Hospice Center, Wilkes Barre, surrounded by his loving family.

Tom was born April 24, 1927 to the late Adam and Fanny Homa Sawka in Wilkes-Barre, PA. He graduated from Hanover High School in 1945. He entered the Army and served in the Korean War for two years. He met Mary Ann Dolan and they were married June 1, 1957 in St. John’s Evangical Church, Wilkes-Barre, PA. They had two sons, Thomas and Michael.

In 1993, Tom retired after 46 years as a tractor trailer driver for Acme Markets. He and Mary enjoyed a short retirement together until Mary passed away in 1996.

Tom was a gentle and quiet man who deeply loved his family. He had many stories that were enjoyable, as well as, comical for family and friends. He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan. He loved the Flyers, Phillies and most of all, the Eagles. Tom was a season Eagles ticket holder enjoying the games with his wife and sons.

Tom was devout Catholic and a lifelong member of S.S. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Plymouth.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Mary, Tom was preceded in death by his sisters, Ann and Mary and his brothers, John and Michael.

Surviving Tom are his sons, Thomas and his wife, Donna and Michael and his wife, Susan; grandchildren, Kelly Lawrence and her husband, Brian and Thomas and his wife, Emily; great grandchildren, Emily and Madeline Terway and Nolan Lawrence; nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff, nurses and doctors of Tiffany Court, Kingston, for their wonderful care and Allied Services Hospice for their assistance and support to Tom and his family.

The Poxoron (the funeral service) will be prayed on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 11 a.m. at S.S. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Nottingham Street, Plymouth. Military service and interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery, Plymouth Twp. At the request of the family, services will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to the S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, Plymouth.
