Joan J. Glushefski, R.N., age 90, of Hanover Twp., passed into the Hands of the Lord on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Allied Meade Street Skilled Nursing Center, Wilkes Barre.
Born October 22, 1935 in Hanover Twp., she was the daughter of the late Charles Kovalski and Lottie Boyarski Kovaleski. Joan was a graduate of Hanover High School, Class of 1953 and a graduate of Nesbitt Memorial Hospital, Kingston, School of Nursing. She was a member of Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church, Buttonwood, Hanover Twp. Over the years, Joan participated in many church activities, functions and fundraisers. She also loved working the Parish bazaars over the years. Joan was a church lector, a member of the prayer group and she assisted in the office with bookkeeping.
Prior to her retirement, Joan had been employed as a registered nurse at Urology Associates of Kingston. Earlier in her career, she worked at Pediatric Associates in Kingston.
She volunteered for the Hanover Area School District as a reader for the reading program.
She was preceded in death by her husband, of 68 years, John L. Glushefski, who passed away on January 30, 2026; twin infant sons; brothers, Jack, Alex and Chester Kovaleski; and sisters, Wanda Minichowski, Helen Fedastian and Celia Wejanowski.
Surviving are her loving children, Karen Alberola (Joseph), Hanover Twp., Susan Konetski, Ashley, and John J. Glushefski, Shavertown; grandchildren, Amanda Alberola Frank (Michael), Michael Konetski (Jessica), Ryan Konetski (Amy), Jeffrey Konetski (Kelly), Kyle Konetski (Mary Kate Keating), and Scott Glushefski (Summer Vanderhoff); great grandchildren, Caegan and Addler Konetski, Morrigan and Avelyn Konetski, and Porter, Trace and Remi Glushefski; a sister, Irene Zaborowski (Bernard), Waynesboro and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her grandpuppies, Graham and Titan, whose visits brought great joy to Joan and her husband, John.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the convenience of the family with interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Twp.
Arrangements are entrusted to the S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, Plymouth.
In lieu of flowers, contributions, if desired, may be made in Joan’s memory to Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church, 420 Main Rd., Hanover Twp., Pa 18706, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
