Joseph James Kachurak, age 82, of Bear Creek Twp., passed into the Hands of the Lord on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at his home in Bear Creek Twp.
Born July 16, 1943, in Larksville, he was the son of the late Joseph John Kachurak and Margaret Capitan Kachurak. Joseph was a graduate of St. Vincent’s High School, Plymouth, and Kings College, Wilkes Barre, where he earned his degree in accounting. He was a devoted Catholic and a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Parish in Bear Creek.
In the early years of his career, Joseph worked as an Audit Manager for the US Government (Defense Contract Audit Agency), a Cost Analysis Pricing Manager for Singer company/Health Research Board Singer, and as Division Controller at Singer Company International Teleprinter. Building on early professional experience, Joseph went on to spend a significant portion of his corporate career at Ingersoll Rand, serving in roles of increasing responsibility, including Assistant Corporate Comptroller. At Ingersoll‑Dresser Pump Company, he led the integration of the joint venture between Ingersoll Rand and Dresser Industries—at the time, one of the world’s largest pump manufacturers—and rose to the position of Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Following a distinguished corporate career, he transitioned into academia as Chief Financial and Administration Officer for the Leonard N. Stern School of Business, New York University.
Joseph’s life was anchored in his deep and devoted love for his wife, with whom he shared 62 years, including 55 years of marriage. Their enduring partnership was the foundation of a life rich in purpose, family, and shared experiences. He also had a deep and enduring love for the outdoors and was an avid sportsman, taking great pride in designing and building his cabin—a place where he created and cherished countless memories. Joseph had a passion for motorcycles and a lifelong appreciation for automobiles. His grandchildren brought him immense pride and joy and held a very special place in his heart.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Michael Kachurak and Thomas Kachurak.
Surviving are his loving wife, the former Edith Ann Miller; children, Rachel Henderson and her husband, Michael, of Easton, PA, and Joseph James Kachurak Jr. and his wife, Domenica, Langhorne, PA; grandchildren, Michaela Henderson, Samantha Henderson, Mindy Rodriguez, Delicia Rodriguez, Sienna Kachurak and Xander Kachurak; sister, Margaret Kubik, of Nazareth, PA; brother, Paul Kachurak and his wife, Maria, of Richmond, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Parish, Bear Creek. Interment will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Lehman.
Family and friends may call on Thursday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. at the S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, 530 West Main Street, Plymouth.
