Thomas E. Matthews, age 77, of Plymouth, passed away on Friday, April 24,2026, at Allied Center City, Wilkes Barre.
Born November 15, 1948 in Plymouth Twp., he was the son of the late John and Mary (Mamie) Brozowski Matthews.
Tom was a member of All Saints Psrish, Plymouth. He was a veteran serving with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Plymouth Post 463 and the VFW Shawnee Post 1425, Plymouth.
Tom was employed by Bergey’s Motors. In past years, he had been employed as the caretaker of St. Mary’s Nativity Cemetery, Plymouth Twp.
He loved the outdoors and hunting. Tom especially enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was active with many benefits and charity events including “The Valley with a Heart.” He loved playing softball with his buddies and hustling people when playing pool. Tom had many cherished and dear friends who meant the world to him.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brother, John.
He is survived by his daughter, Jamie L. Matthews, of Jenkins Twp., step son, Cyrus Matthews, of Hackettstown, N.J.; step daughter, Cassie and her husband, Jim Vomero, of State College, PA; grandchildren, Brantley, Brenden, Ella and Gwen; aunt, Phyllis Baron, of Plymouth; and nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 29, 2026 at 6:45 p.m. at the S. J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, Plymouth. Family and friends are invited to call from 5:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.
